A landing page is the first thing your students will see when they enter your course in Canvas. It can be set as: a customized Homepage (highly suggested), Recent Activity (boring), Modules or another navigation link within your course. A customized homepage is suggested because it will be a students' first impression of the course - much like walking into the classroom. An inviting homepage can set the tone for the course and its participants. Content should be aesthetically appealing, informative and relevant to the course.

Use the homepage to outline the course, supply important information, provide links within the course, or tell a little bit about yourself. The homepage is a good place to provide an introductory video. Whatever you choose, the tone should be warm and welcoming. It's not a bad idea to change the homepage periodically. Some instructors update their homepage weekly providing the students with an overview of the upcoming week or just Food for Thought. It's up to you!

After creating the page (in the Pages link to the left) and publishing it, you will need to designate it as a home page. In the next module is a page named Creating Content with Pages.

Even after the home page is designated, you can play around with the content.
