Shawn Finnegan, a serial entrepreneur with a keen insight into building entrepreneurial success and a leader at the forefront of business innovation, recently shared the tenets of his business philosophy.

Shawn Finnegan offered a positive, relationship-focused business outlook in a recent interview. He explained how this philosophy led to the success of his many entrepreneurial endeavors, stating, “I think being ready for challenges and sticking with it will get you through anything you face. The key to entrepreneurial success has way more to do with people than processes or systems.”

According to Shawn, the top trend is CEOs and founders reaching out to each other to build genuine relationships. The three central tenets of his positive business philosophy included:

1) Respecting Everyone You Interact With

Shawn learned early on that to be successful; he shouldn’t be the main focus of everything. The entrepreneur honed his experience by understanding that people should be the core of everything he does. He shared that caring about his teams, helping them grow their skills, and helping them hone them to provide exceptional customer service has consistently paid dividends and helped him rise to the various challenges in starting and growing a business.

“People should be valued and respected, and all the businesses I’ve founded and the people I work with (colleagues and customers) get treated like the unique, valuable people they are.”

2) Treating Clients as Assets

Customer service is a lost art in the U.S., according to Shawn. Instead of taking the easier route, he shared his commitment to making himself available and approachable to his teams. This includes making clients feel comfortable enough with him so that they can approach him as a trusted advisor and mentor, knowing that he will respect them and value their contributions.

“I’m a big believer in working with people, respecting people, and helping people succeed in their roles in the company. Plus, I’m the one that they can count on to help them align their values and what they want to accomplish with career advancement and how we can all work together to serve our customers optimally.”

3) Building Relationships to Reduce Employee Turnover

Shawn also shared that a focus for any entrepreneur should be to reduce turnover and all the associated issues that can come with that. This is said to be done by emphasizing a commitment to the people in the business and creating a culture of respect for employees and customers.

“Ultimately, respect for people is the top priority in every business relationship.”
