Digital marketing is an essential part of any business's overall marketing strategy, as more and more people are using the internet to find products and services they need. In fact, according to a study by Forrester Research, online sales are expected to reach $1.8 trillion by 2021! This makes sense when you consider how convenient it is to shop online; you can do it from anywhere, at any time, and you don't even have to leave your house.

However, as easy as it is to set up an online store or create a social media account for your business, simply having an online presence is not enough. You need to actively engage in digital marketing in order to achieve success. Keep reading to learn more about what digital marketing is and why it's so important for businesses today.

What Is Digital Marketing?

As we mentioned before, digital marketing is the process of using the internet to promote and sell products or services. However, there's a lot that goes into that simple definition. Let's break it down further:

-The first part, "using the internet," refers to the fact that digital marketing takes place online. This includes both your website and your social media accounts. It also includes any other platforms where you interact with potential or current customers, such as review sites, forums, and even offline channels like print or television (if your ad campaign happens to include them).

-The second part, "to promote and sell products or services," refers to your goals as a business. Your ultimate goal is likely to increase sales or generate leads (i.e., people who are interested in what you have to offer but not yet ready to buy), but there are many smaller objectives that will help you reach that goal, such as building brand awareness or increasing web traffic. We'll talk more about these objectives later on.

Types of Digital Marketing

Now that you know what digital marketing is and why it's so important, it's time to learn about the different types of digital marketing. Here are some of the most common types of digital marketing:

-Search engine optimization (SEO): This refers to the practice of optimizing your website for Google search with the goal of earning higher search engine rankings and getting more organic (i.e., free) traffic.

- content marketing course: This refers to creating high-quality content (such as blog posts, infographics, videos, etc.) that will help you attract attention from potential customers and earn their trust over time.

-Social media marketing: This involves creating interesting and engaging content for your social media followers with the goal of driving them back to your website where they can learn more about what you have to offer and potentially make a purchase.

-Paid advertising: This involves using paid tools like Google AdWords or Facebook Ads to get your website placed higher in search engine results pages or displayed prominently on social media platforms
